Power Steering Flush

Power Steering Flush

Why should you schedule a power steering fluid flush?

What happens is that over a period of time, the various internal power-steering components as well as the seals, O-rings having been subjected to wear and tear tend to wear out. When this happens the power steering fluid gets contaminated with broken down debris forcing the power-steering pump to work harder. The power steering pump now has to pump the debris instead of fluid and no doubt it eventually breaks down. You are left poorer by several hundreds of dollars

Before flushing the system, you should verify the overall integrity of the power steering system and determine if you need to replace any parts. If you detect any problems, order those parts ahead of time and do the flush as a part of the repair. If you open your power steering reservoir and can’t see the bottom or it’s been longer than 36K miles since the last flush, it might be a good time to flush the power steering fluid.
